In the entire realm of monster movies, this film remains famous for containing one of the genre's most atypical finales. Despite Mother Gorgo having destroyed half of London, one just has to love the mother and son (it's a he, isn't it?) reunion/ peaceful return to the sea. Perhaps it's largely due to Angelo Francesco Lavagnino's mellifluent closing theme. Rather hokey but quite touching...at least for us crazed monster movie buffs.
